What if the thing your life is missing right now… isn’t something you need to go out and get, but something you already have—buried deep inside you, waiting to be found?

I have a thought for you to ponder today….

Do you have the courage to bring forth the treasures that are hidden within you???

… This is a question that came up for me this morning as I was just beginning to dive into a new book that was recommended to me by my Life Coach.  The book is called BIG MAGIC – CREATIVE LIVING BEYOND FEAR by Elizabeth Gilbert.

I will link the book below – I am just getting started and I had to tear myself away to put some of these thoughts down on paper while they were still top of mind so that I could share them with you.

YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS BOOK!!  https://amzn.to/4mt3992

Now, I know the first thought that probably went through your mind when you think about bringing forth hidden treasures within you is probably… what???… this isn’t for me…  I don’t have any big life changing things that I have been burying deep inside me that I never had the courage to start or you may be thinking… Michelle – come on now… at this age I am not going to become a movie star or a famous singer or be able to change the world in a way that I once dreamt about when I was young and naïve.

BUT — that is NOT what I am talking about and that is NOT what this book is about.

I want you to think smaller. I want you to think much more personally. I want you to think about what brings you joy. What brings you hope. What brings love into your life. What makes you feel like you have purpose.

– These are the hidden treasures I want you to think about.

Your treasures will look different for you than they look for me or for your neighbor — AND they are all important. They most likely will be an expression of your most true self.

The true self that God created you to be. That true self He created when He knit you together back in Psalm 139. The one where He knew who He created you to be way even before you were born… yes, THAT true self!!

So, go grab you a notebook – take some quiet time with just you and God and write out what comes to your thoughts about hidden treasures within you. If you aren’t sure what to write about – then write about the fact that you don’t know what to write about and ask the Lord to bring some things to mind for you.

Maybe they come by way of memories of a moment that truly made you feel joy or feel like what you were doing mattered. Do you have a hobby or activity, or sport that really makes you feel alive but you have just gotten caught up in living life and haven’t made time for it or maybe you think you’re too old or that there are simply too many more important things that have to get done besides that thing that brought you so much joy and it just got buried away.

Whatever comes to mind – write it down then write about the experience you had doing that thing. Describe it in such a way that you can picture yourself there in your mind. What were you doing, where were you at, what was the scenery around you, who was there with you, how did you feel, what about it brought you such joy, hope, love, or purpose? Write it all down.

Read over what you have written. Maybe you read it a few times. I want to challenge you to allow yourself to go back to that moment and savor how you felt – remember it like you’re in the moment now.  Then talk to God about what you have written. Explore how you can use those hidden treasures to live your most authentic and true self.  Maybe it is serving others with a talent or gifting you have, maybe it isn’t that at all. Maybe it’s something that is completely for you – to give you a sense of fulfillment, joy, or peace.

An example from the book BIG MAGIC is where a friend of Elizabeth’s so enjoyed ice skating back when she was a young girl and as a woman in her 40’s she had long since given up her skates but also found herself at a time in her life where she was missing something and she didn’t quite know what it was and she wasn’t looking to make any drastic life changes like making a job change or moving across the country but she was just missing something. Elizabeth’s friend remembered how alive she used to feel on those ice skates – so she signed up for a class – yes, this 40 something year old woman had the courage to join an ice skating class with a bunch of other young girls and a few times a week, bright and early before she had to be at work, she would go skate. The joy it brought to her had a ripple effect that impacted so many other areas of her life.

I share this story to remind you that the hidden treasure deep within you doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s and it doesn’t have to be something that is directly in service to other people – but when you take care of you and fill up your own cup – that does create a ripple effect all throughout your life and you are able to pour into others with joy in your life – they will see it in your countenance – you will embody this joy that will spread like fire.

That my friend – is the hidden treasure I want you to have the courage to find!!

Much Love 💕

Michelle
