What Is the Difference Between People that Succeed and Those that Don’t?

What is the difference between people that succeed and people that don’t achieve the greatness they are striving for?

I’ve listened to many perspectives on searching out an answer to this question. There are definitely people in the world that make it in whatever their field of interest is and there are definitely those that don’t hit the mark. Of course, we are all searching for this answer so that we can know the secret to success, right? We all want to succeed at whatever the thing is that we are trying to be great at. None of us want to fail. None of us want to look like a fool by trying to achieve a goal and then we simply can’t pull it off. None of us want to ‘have egg‘ on our faces. And none of us want to waste our time. I mean, we are busy, we have many responsibilities and our plates are full already and time just keeps ticking away.

But, what if being afraid to fail is actually the thing that contributes to us failing? Do you think that our lack of faith in our abilities or our lack of confidence that we can be one of the lucky ones is actually holding us back? I think these are some good questions to ask ourselves and really think though how we are allowing some of these things impact our lives.

In an interview I saw recently with Kerry Washington she was quoting a passage from Julia Cameron’s book, The Artist’s Way, ”You pray to catch the bus and then you run as fast as you can. You can’t pray to catch the bus and then stroll down the street and expect to catch the bus. But, if you pray to catch the bus and you run as fast as you can, if you still miss the bus, then it wasn’t your bus. But if you don‘t run, it could have been your bus. And if you don’t pray, it could have been your bus.”

I love this perspective. I am not someone that believes if we pray hard enough or are good enough or give enough money to this charity or follow these rules, that God is going to give us what we are wanting. I am NOT that person at all.

What I do believe is that the Bible tells us to pray and ask for the desires of our heart. What I know is that God had a plan for us before we were born, again, Psalm 139 (yes, that is one of my favorite chapters). What I do believe is that we have these natural tendencies to enjoy this or really enjoy that kind of work, or have a dream for this, or want to serve others by doing that job. I think those small voices within us (assuming they are moral in nature) those deep down desires, to want to do this thing or that thing, can be planted in our hearts as the things we are supposed to do.

Why not give them a listen? Why not give ourselves a chance? Why not pray and run toward the bus as fast as we can?

If we give our dreams the best that we‘ve got, then we will NOT fail. Even if we don’t miss the mark of our goal. We have NOT FAILED.

We would have worked our butts off. We would have done everything we could to catch our bus and there is a tremendous amount of pride in that.. not shame.. not failure. There is honor and respect in that.

Run as fas as we can…. and prayer.

I believe that if we have Faith in Him, Pray, take the next right step – run as fast as we can toward the bus, God will lead us on a journey that will develop us into an amazing person.

Even if that looks different than we originally thought.

Much Love ♥️
