How can we heal from feeling broken, lost or grieved? How can we find THE Thing to fill the emptiness deep inside our hearts? There is one simple answer … Jesus.
I am not going to beat around the bush about it and make you wait until end of the blog post for that answer… it is Jesus Christ. The Son of God … Creator of the Universe – God with a BIG G … Jesus.
He is the only thing, the only person, THE ONLY …. That will fill that God sized hole in our hearts, in our spirits, and in our souls.
That feeling where it just seems like something is missing. We do not know what it is that is missing.
We do not know how to find it.
We are not sure how to even put our finger on what IT is exactly that we are looking for….but we know it IS an emptiness.
We know that it is a longing. We know that it is a loneliness. We know it makes us sad. We know it makes us feel unseen. We know it makes us feel like we don’t belong, anywhere really, even though we may have many people that love us.
It is Jesus.
No other.
Not ourself.
Not the ME looking back in the mirror at you.
It is Jesus.
As all the insightful and well meaning self-help experts will tell us – We do have to do THE WORK. We have to save ourselves because no one else is coming to save us, nor should we want them to.
But, I would like to suggest that for true wholeness and a happiness that is filled with peace and a love that is unwavering and the ultimate definition of unconditional – that is NOT us. That is NOT me. I cannot provide that level of fulfillment to myself. You cannot provide that level of fulfillment to yourself. That is Just Jesus. Period.
What does the work look like?
It looks like prayer, it looks like talking to Jesus like He is sitting right beside us and pouring our heart out to Him. It looks like asking Him to help us. It looks like trusting that He will. It looks like telling Him that we believe but asking Him to help us believe in the areas where we may have doubts or confusion. It is trusting Jesus, to actually be Jesus in our lives.… to us, for real.
It looks like reading His Word. It looks like finding a sound version of the Bible that makes sense to us and opening it up and reading it. It looks like asking Him to help us understand His Word. It looks like getting to know God and Jesus by reading about Them. By talking to Them.
It looks like seeking out a sound Church to attend and get involved in. It looks like seeking out sound Christians that have been in the faith longer than we have to ask them questions when we may not understand scripture.
At the same time, doing the work does also look like holding ourselves accountable. No one is coming to parent us as adults. Our mommy and daddy issues, we need to recognize them, we need to feel them, we can even talk to a sound Christian counselor about them (I highly recommend it). BUT, we CANNOT skip the step of talking to Jesus about them. Ask Him to soften the hurt from the past. Ask Him to help us forgive whoever we need to forgive so that WE can heal. The forgiveness for others, is for our peace. So that we are not held captive to how we’ve been hurt and all the things that go along with that. Ask Jesus to fill that space with His Love – because His Love is perfect Love.
It looks like us acknowledging where we are, being self aware, wanting to make a change, and it looks like us taking those baby steps, however so small, to make those changes.
But, it always has to include Jesus right along with all of those things. Right along in the middle of them. He helps us with these things. He gives us strength we need to take that next step forward. He gives us discernment for what those actionable steps look like. He gives us the strength to endure the journey of healing through His Grace, and Mercy, and Love.
Jesus is the Healer. Jesus is the Comforter. Jesus is THE missing piece that we are all looking for to fill the un-fillable space in our hearts, in our soul, in our lives.
Jesus.
Much Love ♥️
